ABOUT THIS BOOK

Our intention is that the identity of this book should stand out in four significant ways:
We hope the book reflects our love of tennis and of learning, and our belief that everyone involved in tennis can create the future for tennis
The book is about the whole of life as well as about living a fulfilling tennis life. All of the concepts are applicable to all sports and situations where learning is possible
We have taken a panoramic perspective on tennis and coaching. Each chapter could be at least a book. We hope what we have written will arouse your curiosity and motivate you to delve deeper into the areas you find stimulating
The book has a strong design signature. The design follows the tennis year, in that the colours of each chapter flow from those used at the Australian Open in January, through the French Open, Wimbledon, US Open, Laver Cup, and finally the WTA and ATP finals at the end of the year. There is a dynamic mixture of narrative, signs, slogans, and symbols which we hope will make it a pleasure to read and share with others.

FOREWORD
I'm pretty sure this is the first book to really focus on the importance of the Coach-Parent-Player triangle in athlete development. It's really vital that all three are on the same page and the lines of communication are working in all directions of the triangle. If everyone understands their role and responsibilities at each step of the journey and works towards the same short, then medium, then long term, agreed goals, there is far more chance of success. If they don't, then there's usually carnage somewhere along the line.

There are some great tennis examples in here and I love how The Sweet Spot mixes tried and trusted practices from those with proven track records with lots of innovative "out of the box" thinking. It's a positive and upbeat read that gives a real insight into the good, the bad and the ugly relationships that can develop between coach, player and parent.

If a young player is to become the best he or she can be, the coaches and parents have to become the best they can be too. Always listening, looking, learning, encouraging and sharing. Teamwork makes the dream work.

Judy Murray
As a High-Performance Tennis Coach for over 45 years I have always had a strong belief that in order for the player to reach their potential there has to be strong relationships developed between the player, parent and coach. This book addresses many of the challenges each of the trio faces and provides practical solutions how to work best through those challenges. If you are a coach, player or parent at the start of your journey in tennis or at the highest levels of the sport you will benefit a huge amount from reading and applying the learnings from this book.
